I WANT TO THANK DON MARGOLIS

To all-

I want to thank Don Margolis for giving me a venue to express some of my feelings about stem cells. I have the greatest respect for Mr. Margolis, his past accomplishments with treating congestive heart failure patients with stem cells virtually before anyone in the US was even thinking of it and his current efforts to dispel the mass confusion about stem cells that is rampant in the USA. My motivation is that I believe the US government and medical industry is missing the biggest opportunity for healing millions of people since…well, ever. If that’s not a good reason to “blog for change”, I don’t know what is.

While I don’t promise that my posts will always be scientific and clinically grounded, I can virtually guarantee that they always will be irreverent and probably entertaining. In the best tradition of blogging, because I love America and because this country is based upon the tenants of freedom of speech and I intend to proudly wrap myself in those rights and wear them until and beyond when the stitches are loose and the fabric is threadbare. That is all that I will promise to you. You may not agree with everything I say or the way I say it but that, as they say, is your problem not mine.

As Howard Stern said: “the show was never about shocking people, but primarily intended to offer (my) honest opinions on a gamut of issues.” Within that context, I want to be the Howard Stern of Stem Cells. That, and if you actually think about what I have written you may realize that there is a lot more there than your gut tells you at first glance.

If that is a problem for you, I suggest you stop reading right now.

For those that have the courage to forge ahead, face reality and put an unflinching and honest microscope up to all things “stem cell-ian” that most people take for granted, then hold onto your seat, it’s going to be a wild ride!

THIS STORY I AM SHOWCASING TODAY  THIS POOR NURSE HAS TO GO TO GERMANY AND PAY OUT OF HER OWN POCKET (WHICH IS EMPTY) FOR A STEM CELL TREATMENT FOR HER HEART THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN GREAT BRITAIN AND THE BRITISH NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE REFUSES TO PAY FOR IT!

AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO RANT ABOUT THE SHORTCOMINGS OF A “FREE” HEALTH CARE SYSTEM SUCH AS THOSE IN GREAT BRITAIN OR IN CANADA, THIS BLOG IS ABOUT ADULT STEM CELLS.

WHEN YOU READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE YOU WILL FIND THE NURSE WAS TREATED IN GERMANY WITH ADULT STEM CELLS TWICE ALREADY FOR HER HEART CONDITION AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HER RESULTS:

The therapy involves taking stem cells from bone marrow in the hip, selecting the cells they need then passing them by catheter into the heart. The cells then grown back into the muscle wall and blood vessels, assisting the heart.

The treatment is not yet approved in the UK because it is considered too experimental, although St Bart’s Hospital, London, has been running trials since 2003.

Joan underwent her first round of treatment at the Johann Goethe Institute in Frankfurt in early 2005. She paid £7,800 but the true cost was nearer £10,000 with expenses.

Before the procedure her heart was functioning at 16.5 per cent but this rose to 30 per cent afterwards.

She then had a second round of treatment in 2007 costing another £10,000, which lifted her heart function to 40 per cent.

Joan said: “The results from the previous sessions were brilliant and without the treatment I don’t think I would be here. It makes the heart work much more efficiently.

“Before the first treatment I was housebound and couldn’t do anything, but afterwards I felt fine. I had another round of treatment and again there was an improvement.

“I have a very good GP and cardiologist who supported my application, but the PCT says it does not meet their criteria.

“They have said it is an experimental treatment, but it is carried out in many countries.

“I know it is not a cure, but it does give me a lease of life and has already kept me going for three years.”

NOW THE NHS REFUSES TO PAY FOR THIS 10000 POUND STEM CELL TREATMENT IN GERMANY. HOWEVER, I AM ASSUMING THE NHS WILL PAY (AND HAS PAID) MUCH MORE FOR HER TREATMENT- DOCTOR’S VISITS, MEDICINE, HOSPITAL FEES, OPERATIONS- BUT WHEN IT COMES TO A MINIMAL RISK, MINIMALLY CONTROVERSIAL TREATMENT SUCH AS ADULT STEM CELL THERAPY THAT IN THE LONG RUN WILL SAVE BRITISH TAX PAYERS THOUSANDS OF POUNDS (AND THIS IS JUST FOR ONE HEART PATIENT, THERE ARE THOUSANDS MORE LIKE HER OUT THERE),  THE NHS SAYS NO-  GO FIGURE!

CHRISTOPHER REEVE AND DR. CARLOS LIMA

This story is about two men who never met—-but should have.

Christopher Reeve was one of my favorite actors.  He created the movie role of Superman and no one will ever surpass his perfect interpretation of the ‘mild-mannered Clark Kent.’  Years later, Superman suffered the worst accidental injury in the medical lexicon, Spinal Cord Injury, leading to paralysis; and those of us who admired him suffered along with him.

In 2004, when the embryonic science fiction fraud in America kicked off in earnest, Mr. Reeve, like Michael J. Fox who was suffering from Parkinson’s, was already a cheerleader, believing the lie they both believed, that George W. Bush was the reason that they both hadn’t been cured yet.  OK, so they were wrong, but so are thousands of others with SCI or with Parkinson’s, except for one thing: THE RESULT OF MR REEVE’S AND MR. FOX’S PASSIONATE ERROR IS ADDING TO THE TORTURE ALL SUCH PATIENTS IN AMERICA!

‘How is that possible?’ you ask.   Are you sitting down?  Good.  One sentence:  In order for the embryonic fraud to survive, THE PROFITEERS MUST CREATE LIES, LIES CLAIMING THAT ADULT STEM CELLS (ASC) CANNOT DO MUCH OF ANYTHING.   Yes, the same ASC that has already improved the lives of thousands of dying heart patients; the same ASC that is working on both diabetes-type-1 and diabetes-type-2; working on emphesema, working on stroke victims, and more diseases THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD CAN COUNT, according to embryonic profiteers, DON’T WORK!  Imagine, Lou Gehrig’s Disease is being treated on four continents, but not in any country who ever heard of Lou Gehrig!

The second lie is the myth that embryonic stem cells can treat more diseases than adult stem cells.  The truth is that embryonic stem cells cannot treat ANYTHING and NEVER WILL IN YOUR LIFETIME!  To quote one of Britain’s leading embryonic researchers,  Professor Colin McGuckin, professor of regenerative medicine at Newcastle University, UK. “The best estimates of the embryonic scientists in our own university in Newcastle is that embryonic stem cells may not be able to help people this side of 50 years. That’s my lifetime. And that’s worrying. We can’t wait that long.”

In 2004, two paraplegics testified to Congress about the improved quality of life they gained by going to Portugal to visit Dr. Lima’s tiny clinic to be treated with adult stem cells.  Of course this information was kept from Mr. Reeve, or perhaps he was lied to by those who expect to profit from the billions they are already stealing from you, the American taxpayer (or European taxpayer), for embryonic cures that will never come.  In any event, had he gone to Dr. Lima, Mr. Reeve might have improved his health enough to survive his condition and get a full series of ASC implants which could, just around this year, have him walking with the aid of walkers as some other are doing.  But he gave, and Mr. Fox is giving, his life for something whose only purpose is MONEY.  Embryonic Science Fiction is not about cures, and, by necessity, needs to hide what Dr. Carlos Lima and hundreds of other doctors are doing with adult stem cells.  After all, if America were told the truth instead of countless lies, who would be left screaming their lungs out for George Bush’s head every time the hoaxers roll another wheelchair up to the stage?  Worst of all; for something that will never work and is not needed, even today.

One of the Most Ridiculous Studies on Weight Loss Ever Published

A truly ludicrous study purports to show that a weight-loss surgery called adjustable gastric banding works better than conventional medical treatment for Type 2 diabetes in the obese.

Type 2 diabetes is usually brought on by obesity, and patients can often rid themselves of the disease entirely by losing about 10 percent of their body weight.

Adjustable gastric banding consists of looping a band around the top of the stomach to cinch it into a small pouch. 25 to 30 percent of the more than 200,000 weight-loss operations performed in the United States last year used gastric banding.

Of course, weight-loss surgeries can result in black-outs, malnutrition, infection, bowel and gallbladder problems, and an increased risk of death, but these facts are largely missing from reporting on the study.

The study’s lead author, Dr. John Dixon, says he believes that, “[D]iabetes surgery will become common within the next few years.” The reasons for his position might become a little clearer when you realize that Dr. Dixon has received research grants and speakers’ fees from Allergan Health, the company that makes the gastric bands. The company also paid for the study in question.

Device able to pull stem cells from blood

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 25 (UPI) — A tiny, implantable device can pull adult stem cells out of a living rat with greater purity than any present technique, a U.S. study found.

The device was designed by Michael R. King, who was studying how white blood cells, called neutrophils, know how to migrate to a point of infection. He observed that near an injury, the walls of the nearby blood vessels expressed an adhesive protein and if passing neutrophils brushed against selectins they stick to the vessel wall, but did remain struck, the neutrophils rolled to the site.

Together with Jane Liesveld, a hematology clinician doing work on bone marrow stem cells at the University of Rochester, King found that the basic rolling mechanism was the foundation of a number of other processes, including stem cell transplantation — a natural phenomenon where stem cells move in and out of bone tissue via the blood.

In the study, published in the British Journal of Haematology, the researchers implanted the device in a living rat and they were able to capture stem cells straight out of the bloodstream,

“One of our ultimate goals is to develop an implantable device that will selectively remove metastatic cells from the blood,” King said in a statement.

THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF

Every week we hear of a new and ground breaking embryonic stem cell accomplishment. How long must we endure these false-victories and half-truths? Remember…

In the Boy Who Cried Wolf, a bored shepherd boy entertains himself by calling out “wolf”. Nearby villagers repeatedly come to his rescue only to find that the alarms were false and that they’d wasted their time. When the boy was actually confronted by a wolf, the villagers did not believe his cries for help and the wolf ate the flock. The moral is stated at the end of the fable as:

“Even when liars tell the truth, they are never believed. The liar will lie once, twice, and then perish when he tells the truth.”

Unfortunately, the consensus of even pro-embryonic scientists is that there will be no cures from embryonic stem cells for at least 10 years. So we will have to endure the “wolf cries” of victory from embryonic promoters for at least 10 years. And when, and if, embryonic stem cells do create cures in 10 years, the sad news is that our flock of Americans, with no access to adult stem cells, will already have been eaten by the wolf.
