Heart Attack Victim Improves Quality of Life

A heart disease patient is reporting that participation in a stem cell research trial in Arizona has improved his quality of life.  Thomas Lankford, an award winning journalist and heart attack victim, is able to lift up and play with his grandson again after adult stem cells were implanted into his heart muscle.

Stem Cell Research Study in Arizona

The research trial, taking place at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Arizona is run by Dr. Nabil Dib, a cardiologist who has been a believer in adult stem cells for many years.  Dr. Dib implanted the stem cells into the heart muscle of Lankford using a minimally invasive catheter with a special needle attached.  The procedure doesn't involve surgery and Lankford was awake the entire time of the stem cell procedure.

• Can pick up and hold his granddaughter

I am in the project's second of three phases. This one involves the injection of 75 million stem cells. Only 25 million cells were injected in each participant in Phase I, and 150 million cells are to be injected in Phase III.

The purpose of the study is to determine if the injection of special cells can help restore heart muscle function and to try and determine what number of cells is the magic number of cells needed.

I keep pinching myself to see if I am dreaming, or if this new-found energy is for real.

Ho Hum - More Lives SaveD By Stem Cells

This shouldn't come as a surprise as there are plenty of these stem cell research studies showing that adult stem cells are beneficial to heart disease patients.  There was this research study in Germany showing the benefits of stem cells and where I argued that there is so much evidence that adult stem cells help heart attack victims that it should be a crime of humanity NOT to give something that so obviously can help.    Also, there was this recent completed stem cell study in America that showed the same thing. 

While adult stem cells don't help every time, they give the heart attack patient the greatest hope and there are no side effects!  The worst thing that can happen is nothing.  If a doctor told me "Hey Don, there is a good chance these stem cells will make your quality of life better, but there is a chance they will do nothing."  I would say "Go ahead Doc, what have I got to lose?"

You can see more than 50 stem cell success stories in our heart disease section if you need more evidence.  Evidently the FDA is not a reader of the Don Margolis Blog as thousands of heart disease patients are dying every year due to the fact that adult stem cells are not available to Americans except in limited clinical research trials.

Americans now are traveling abroad to countries where adult stem cells are used as they are forced to go due to the FDA who claim to "protect" patients from "unproven" treatments, but in reality are killing them.

Celebrities Benefit From Stem Cell Therapy

Celebrities like golfer John Daly and Black Sabbath's guitarist Tony Iommi are the latest patients to be benefiting from adult stem cell therapy.  Both John Daly and Tony Iommi are using adult stem cells to recover from injuries that have hindered them for quite some time.

John Daly is recovering from a rib injury faster than expected and has committed to play the PGA Tour's Viking Classic next week, then the Australian Open and Australian PGA in December.

Daly said in a statement Wednesday that surgery he had last month involving stem cells has enabled him to begin playing in two weeks, after fears he would miss the rest of the year.

"My recovery from stem cell surgery has been closely monitored by my doctor, and I have been cleared to begin playing competitively in two weeks," Daly said in the statement.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Helped By Stem Cell Research

"I've had this problem with my hand and I'm having stem cell treatment on it," Iommi continues. "I have to wear a guard on my hand to prevent me from banging it. But it's coming along good. The cartilage went out on the joints, so the joints were rubbing on the joints. It was bone on bone and it was getting a bit painful. I've had pain for about 18 months and have been taking anti-inflammatories and pain killers. But I wanted to stop doing it because it upsets your stomach. This is the latest thing, so we'll see if it works."

Stem Cell Success Stories

This is good news as stem cell treatment using adult stem cells is becoming more mainstream (albeit at a pace too slow for millions of patients suffering now.).  However, I'll take these great adult stem cell success stories as small victories at this point in time.  Let's hope and pray that the FDA will take note of this and make it available to the masses NOW!

1. They pay young (20-something) volunteers to donate their bone marrow cells, therefore starting with the best age for strong, healthy stem cells.
2. After eliminating any potential for disease, they spin out the mesenchymals and grow them into massive numbers in a very short time with patented IP.
3. Then the biggest challenge of all was overcome---eliminating any chance of rejection of the donor’s DNA by the patient’s immune system….also by patented IP.
4. The final product is cryo-frozen and shipped to the treatment center, many batches at one time, and stored there. 

Now any patient, too young, too old, too weak, or too sick to use his/her own stem cells, gets the benefit of what promise to be the best of the best stem cells.

Stem Cell Science - Never Stagnant

Will this prove to be the best protocol ever?  Of course not.  Repair Stem Cell  science zooms by every great discovery in less than two years----sort of like Moore’s Law for computer science.  But for 2009 and probably 2010, I doubt any one will top this product…clean, massive numbers, and all mesenchymals.  2011? History says this new miracle may be all but obsolete.  But Dr. Ichim says simply,  “We are not going to be standing still either.”  THAT you can bet on.

Adult Stem Cells fix broken jawbones in Spain

 Bone Repair Cells (BRCs) were used in Spain to repair the faces of patients suffering from severe craniofacial defects in 2008 and the 12-month results were released at a conference in China this month (Aug. 2009). The product was developed by what RSCI considers one of the top stem cell companies in America, Aastrom Biosciences. 

Dr. Jose Mendonca, Director of the Head and Neck Surgery Unit of Hospital POLUSA in Lugo, Spain and previously a Clinical and Research Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the UCLA School of Dentistry, reviewed the results of treatment with BRCs in three patients with craniofacial defects, as follows:

1-- The first patient was treated for severe mandibular osteoradionecrosis, or osteonecrosis of the jaw caused by
 radiation, and presented with pathological fracture and complete numbness of the lower lip. At 12 months post-BRC treatment, thepatient displayed restored vascular function, new bone formation, fracture consolidation and total recovery of lip numbness.

2--The second patient was treated for post-traumatic mandibular osteomyelitis and presented with massive bone loss, chronic infection, chronic pain and total impairment of function of both mandibular nerves. At 12 months post-BRC treatment, the patient experienced complete functional nerve recovery and the formation of new bone.

3-The third patient was treated for iatrogenic massive bone loss in the posterior maxilla and presented with severe oral function impairment. At 12 months post-BRC treatment, the patient had new bone formation in atrophic areas.
All patients underwent a minor surgery to insert a dental implant into the newly regenerated jaw bone. Eight weeks later, the dental prosthesis (teeth) was attached to the implant completing the treatment objectives with the restoration of oral function.

"The outcome of these treatments with BRCs has been very satisfactory. We observed early bone formation in the afflicted areas that eventually resulted in complete healing," said Dr. Mendonca. "Unexpected therapeutic results from treatment with BRCs include peripheral nerve regeneration or repair, new skin formation and proliferation in blood vessels in ischemic areas!!


NOTE from Don Margolis: RSCI knew that this “trial” would succeed, but how well it came out surprised even us, who have seen five years of Repair Stem Cell successes month after month. We look for unexpected side effects---always positive---ever since TheraVitae’s pioneer heart stem cells surprised everyone by improving the patients’ diabetes in one out of six cases. Stem Cell Research Helping Regrowth of Hair, Treating Baldness

A clinic in Florida is doing an experimental  stem cell research study to treat baldness with Adult Stem Cells from the patient's own blood.  John Satino, the clinical director of the Hair & Scalp Laser Clinic in Florida is now testing a method of using stem cell therapy and treatment to stimulate hair growth in people who are suffering from premature baldness.

Process of Stem Cells for Baldness

1. Blood is drawn from the patient


2. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Containing Stem Cells and Growth Factors are separated from the blood


3. The stem cells are then injected into the affected (Balding) areas


4. A Laser is also used to agitate the skin so the stem cells can migrate into the hair follicles

The stem cell article here features a Florida resident named Russell Gibson. Russell is 30 years old. Here is more:

Gibson has alopecia areata which is an auto-immune disease where white blood cells attack the hair follicle which stops hair growth on the scalp and on the body. Gibson's eyebrows and lashes have fallen out. There is no cure.

The hair clinic is treating Gibson and 5 others for free as part of the stem cell research study. The results of the research study are expected to be published. Hey John Satino, when you finish the stem cell study, please let the Don Margolis Blog know the results! We want to know.

The results of the study should be interesting. When I was with Theravitae, I saw the heart disease patients treated with Vescell and one of the positive side effects in addition to the benefits to the heart was that some of the patients reported that their hair was growing back- so this idea seems to be a good one. I'd like to see how Russell is doing in a few months as from the story, it seems he was just treated with his own Adult Stem Cells.
